The Coopers were German, their name originally Kieffer. Dorothy, Frederick’s wife, stated in her application for a Revolutionary Way Widows Pension, they they had an old Dutch Bible and their children wrote the names in the Bible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Frederick’s father Abraham died, and he and his stepfather were not on good terms. He sneaked a sorrel mare out of the barn and left home when he was 14 to join the Revolution.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

George Frederick Cooper – Revolutionary War Patriot<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

George Frederick Cooper entered the service of the United States September, 1777, as a substitute for Jacob Welchaus. He entered a second Tour of service as a substitute for the same man in the month of April 1778. He drove a wagon of provisions for the Army on to Valley Forge where Washington’s Army then lay. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He then moved from Pennsylvania to Rowan County, North Carolina and on 1 May 1780 he enlisted in the militia service of that state. In August 1780, under the command of General Thomas Sumpter in South Carolina, he was taken prisoner by the British, but made his escape in 8-10 hours. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After his escape, he marched back to North Carolina and joined General William Lee Davidson. Then again, in October 1780, he entered the service as a substitute for Daniel Adams. After the war, he and his family moved to Kentucky, where he lived the remainder of his life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Frederick was originally buried at the Beaver Creek Baptist Church in Wayne Co., KY, but the Army Corps of Engineers moved the graves from Beaver Creek Baptist Church to Old Charity Baptist Church in Parnell in 94 unmarked graves during the Cumberland Lake Project in the 1950s. The original Beaver Creek Baptist Church Cemetery is now under the waters of Lake Cumberland.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
